A clear, professional way to show up online

A professional headshot is often the first point of contact someone has with you and your work. It appears on your website, LinkedIn profile, speaker bios, proposals, and press features. It quietly shapes how credible, capable, and trustworthy you appear before a single word is read.

My headshot sessions are designed to give you images that feel accurate, professional, and easy to use. Nothing stiff, exaggerated, or forced. Just photographs that help people understand who you are and take your work seriously.

I offer relaxed, on-location headshot sessions in Edinburgh and across Scotland for service-based professionals and small business owners who want to look like themselves, at their best.

Headshots that feel natural and professional

Many people worry that a headshot session will feel awkward or unnatural. That is completely normal.

You do not need to know how to pose, where to put your hands, or how to “act confident”. I guide you clearly and calmly throughout, so the process feels straightforward and supportive rather than exposing.

The aim is not to create a polished version of someone you do not recognise. It is to create portraits that feel like you on a good, well-rested day. Approachable, capable, and professional.

Images you can use across your business

Your headshots should work hard for you, not sit unused in a folder.

Each session is planned with how the images will be used in mind, whether that is LinkedIn, your website, speaker profiles, press, or proposals. The result is a small set of versatile portraits that can be used consistently across your platforms without needing to reinvent things each time.

Headshots are often the starting point for clearer visibility. They give you a solid, professional foundation you can build on later if and when you need more.

Kind words from clients

Headshot of man by photographer in Edinburgh Scotland

Janette Farquhar

Donna took some corporate headshots of our new Director - not only was she quick to respond (and friendly) but the final shots were first class (and turned around in record time).

Would highly recommend!

Donna was fantastic during our photo shoot, helping me to feel at ease (I'm not naturally very confident in front of the camera).

The result was stunning photos that I use across my business, on social media, my website, and featured posts.  I would definitely recommend Donna.

Henry Bampfylde

I met Donna at a networking event and got the opportunity to work with her a few months later.

I hate having photos taken and I normally feel uncomfortable, but she was very professional, and put me at ease straight away.

It was quick, easy, and painless and she got some great photos for me.

FAQs about headshots

How do headshot sessions work and how long do they take?

Sessions are relaxed and collaborative. We’ll spend around 45 minutes in one location, with gentle guidance on posture, expression, and positioning so you look natural and confident. You can read more about what’s included on my Headshots page.

Where do headshot sessions take place?

I shoot on location in Edinburgh and can travel elsewhere in Scotland by arrangement. We’ll pick a spot that suits your personality and how you work. If you’d like inspiration for settings, take a look at my blog post on the best locations in Edinburgh for brand photoshoots.

What do I receive after the shoot?

You’ll get a private online gallery with around 20 fully edited images to choose from. Your favourite three are included, delivered in both high-resolution and web-ready formats. If you’d like more variety, you can purchase additional images from your gallery. You can also see how this process works for longer sessions on my Soar brand photography package page.

What should I wear, and will you help me decide?

Choose outfits you feel good in and that fit your brand and setting. Clean lines and simple textures photograph well. I’ll send simple guidance before your session and we can review options together so everything feels cohesive. You’ll also find plenty of practical advice in my What to wear for a brand photoshoot guide.

Will you retouch my photos, and will I still look like me?

Yes – light, realistic retouching. I’ll make subtle improvements while keeping skin texture and your natural features so you still look like yourself, just on a really good day.

Can I use my headshots right across my business?

Yes. Your images come with a full commercial use licence, so you can use them on your website, LinkedIn, social media, speaker bios, press, and more.

When headshots might not be the right fit

Headshots are a strong starting point, but they are not always the most useful option.

If you need images that show how you work, what you offer, or the wider context of your business, a brand photography session may be a better fit. This is often the case if you are updating your website, creating regular content, or trying to communicate more than just who you are.

Brand photography gives you a broader set of images that can support your marketing over time, rather than a small number of portraits used in isolation.

If you are unsure which approach makes sense for your situation, I am happy to talk it through and help you decide.
